The Support and Opportunities You Need

Entrepreneurial Thinking Supported Here

Students on a Social Mission

We give students lots of ways to get involved, make a difference and test their wings. We’ll support you all the way.

Learn More.

Learning doesn’t take place only in the classroom at NC State’s School of Public and International Affairs. As a student here, you can seek out internships, learn about the world around you through study abroad opportunities, and engage in purposeful research.

Advising: SPIA’s team of professional advisers will make sure you have the support you need. Whether you’re a first semester freshman, a new transfer student, a senior preparing for graduation or a graduate student, your adviser is one of your most important connections. Undergraduate advisers are trained to help you select the courses you need to graduate on time, pursue your intellectual curiosity and begin your professional career. And if you’re a graduate student, you’ll work closely with an adviser or thesis committee to choose courses and conduct research that aligns with your intellectual curiosity and passions.

Internships: Undergraduates connect with our internship coordinator to pursue opportunities in the private sector, government or nonprofit organizations while earning academic credit. Grad students in our MIS program have interned across the country and abroad in Singapore, Belarus, Mexico and Peru, to name a few.

Study Abroad: NC State’s Study Abroad Office provides a wealth of opportunities to broaden undergrads’ horizons through study abroad. Grad students in our MIS program either bring previous experience of foreign study or undertake study abroad as part of their program.

Research: NC State’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences – where our school belongs – is a university leader in enabling students to participate in research beginning at the undergraduate level. Graduate students conduct extensive research and are mentored by faculty who are leaders in their fields. Funding for graduate teaching or research assistantships is available to many of our grad students.
